Jedi Challenges: New technology level unlocked

The behemoths of the digital gaming arena have exploited the available technology to give their users a world-class experience. Technology trends like augmented reality have greatly served this purpose and continue to support innovation in the field.
The integration of virtual content with the user’s environment in real time with AR reveals endless possibilities. However, to have the best possible experience, these games usually require specialized hardware like headsets that are often quite expensive.

The recent turn of events

The global digital games market recently witnessed a stir from an event that could possibly end this problem.  One of Apple’s app developers, ARKit, recently introduced a new version of the existing AR based game, Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, to deliver a much more realistic experience without the use of hardware accessories!
The ARKit version of Holochess, a part of the aforementioned strategic combat game series, functions without the previously required headset and lightsaber. One can simply direct their gaze to communicate instructions to the board. What’s more? This game is available for free on iOS. It is compatible with all software versions starting from iOS 11.

The new sans-headset update has only been made available for iOS users yet; those with Android devices will have to bide their time. Furthermore, Holochess is the only game in the complete series that can be enjoyed without the hardware.

The potential challenges

According to information from a range of technology market research reports, this range of highly engrossing games was first developed by Lenovo. In the time of its introduction, the game required the hardware accessories, but the supported ones were considerably cheaper to other alternatives available in the market. This fact was directly associated with the popularity of the game.

The recent advances by ARKit have challenged this because of its ability to deliver the same experience without the requirement for wearable components. Lenovo is thus speculated to have been working on an update that can counter this effectively.
